Maintain proper salinity level with greater precision and convenience. Refractometer is designed specifically to measure the absolute salinity of seawater, not brine (NaCl) for true readings essential for reef aquariums housing sensitive corals. High-resolution dual scale display (salinity in ppt and specific gravity) focuses on the range relevant for reef aquariums, eliminating confusing extraneous graduations. Dual scale range of 20-40 PPT/77°F and 1.010-1.030 S.G.
Refractometer has been calibrated for the specific ionic content of seawater according to the most advanced international laboratory standards for practical salinity measurements. High accuracy seawater refractometer features Automatic Temperature Compensation for exceptional accuracy measuring the absolute salinity of seawater at a temperature of 25°C/77°F.
Main Features
Directly reads the absolute salinity of seawater at 25°C/77°F (no need for seawater or temperature compensation factors).
Specifically designed for the ionic content of seawater (NSW) for more accurate salinity measurement (industry standard refractometers are calibrated for salt brine).
Calibrated for seawater (NSW) at 25°C/77°F, the normal temperature range for reef aquariums (most standard refractometers are calibrated at 15°C/59°F).
Easier to read, higher resolution display, focused to the relevant range for reef aquariums of up to 40ppt.
Includes Integrated Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) for accurate measurement at standard ambient temperature.
Did You Know?Measuring the salinity of seawater with a refractometer calibrated for brine (NaCl) solution will result in a deviation of up to 1.5 ppt!
Directions for use
Clean the glass prism and translucent flap of the refractometer with deionized (DI) water at 22-25°C and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Hold the refractometer horizontally and open the flap.
Using the pipette provided, place a small sample of the seawater to be tested on the glass prism. Do not immerse the refractometer into the seawater.
Close the flap on the sample and wait for 15 seconds to allow for the temperature of the sample and the refractometer to equalize.
Point the prism end of the refractometer to a light source and look through the eyepiece. (Note: The refractive index is also dependent on the wavelength of the light source and therefore a light source close to daylight should be used.)
The top of the screen will be blue and the bottom will be clear/white. The dividing line between the blue and white sections is where the reading should be taken.
Adjust the focus for your individual eyesight by rotating the eyepiece until a sharp picture is achieved.
Read the seawater salinity in ppt and/or the equivalent specific gravity (S.G.) at 25°C.
Clean the glass prism and translucent flap of the refractometer with DI water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
CalibrationAlignment should always be carried out with the instrument at 22-25°C. Allow the refractometer to stand at this temperature for 30 minutes before alignment.
Remove the cover from the alignment screw.
Place a sample of DI water on the glass prism and check the salinity reading as directed above.
If the reading is not exactly on the zero ppt mark on the scale, adjust the position of the reading by rotating the alignment screw with the screwdriver provided until the reading is zero ppt.
Replace the cover from the alignment screw.
StorageTo prevent the formation of condensation inside the refractometer, store in a dry environment.
General InformationRefractometers are optical instruments that measure the refractive index of a solution, which will vary according to its ionic composition, concentration and temperature. For accurate results, refractometers must be calibrated for the specific solution to be tested and in the correct temperature range.
Refractometer has been calibrated for the specific ionic content of seawater according to the most advanced international laboratory standards for practical salinity measurements. Measuring the salinity of seawater with a refractometer calibrated for brine (NaCl) solution will result in a deviation of up to 1.5 ppt.
Refractometer includes automatic temperature compensation. However, to avoid compensation errors, it has been calibrated at 25°C, the normal temperature range for reef aquariums. Both the ambient temperature and the water sample temperature will influence the refractive index and therefore it is recommended to use the refractometer in environments where the ambient temperature and the water to be tested are between 15-35°C.
Over time, the optical elements inside refractometers can become misaligned. Therefore, before first use and thereafter on a regular basis, the alignment of a refractometer should be checked and adjusted as necessary.
About SalinitySalinity is a general term describing the concentration of salt in water. However, solutions of different type of salts have different refractive indexes. Brine is a solution of Sodium Chloride (table salt) that contains 2 chemical elements. Seawater contains approximately 70 chemical elements that include Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium etc. in addition to the Sodium Chloride. Seawater and Brine of the same salinity (i.e. the same weight of salt/liter) have different refractive indexes and will give different salinity readings if measured on the same refractometer.
Refraction & Refractive IndexAll transparent materials such as liquids refract (distort) light. All transparent materials refract light differently and have what is called a "refractive index" which means how much a particular material distorts light. Different concentrations of the same liquid have different refractive indexes. The scale of a refractometer is calculated by using a mathematical algorithm that relates the measured refraction to its concentration for a specific liquid.
Refractive Index and TemperatureThe refractive index of liquids change with temperature and therefore has a major effect on measuring salinity with a refractometer. The algorithm for defining the PPT (and S.G.) scale for a refractometer is calculated for a specific temperature.
PPT readings from refractometers that are not calibrated for reef aquariums (i.e. 25°C) need to be adjusted according to a conversion table to give the actual PPT at the aquarium temperature. This is often a cause for misinterpretation of refractometer readings.
For example, using a seawater refractometer calibrated at 20°C will give a PPT reading that is approximately 1-1.5ppt lower than the absolute salinity of the same water sample at the normal aquarium temperature of 25°C.
Therefore, Refractometer calibrated at 25°C/77°F directly reads the absolute salinity of seawater with no need for temperature compensation factor)
ATC - Automatic Temperature CompensationTemperature is probably the biggest cause of wrong readings with a refractometer. Calibration and testing of water samples should be done after the refractometer and water sample have equalized at the correct temperature.
Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) compensates for a few degrees of difference between the ambient temperature and the calibrated temperature of the refractometer. Larger temperature variations will give an error of approximately 1.0ppt in the salinity reading.
Red Sea’s Reef Mature Pro Kit provides a complete program for the biological maturation of your reef aquarium, establishing full nitrification plus nitrate and phosphate reduction in a few weeks.
Most biological ‘cycling’ products only provide the bacteria that convert toxic waste products to nitrate. Red Sea’s Reef Mature Pro Kit completes the biological maturation process by establishing thriving colonies of anoxic (de-nitrifying and phosphate harboring) bacteria as well as ensuring the necessary conditions that will promote the growth of coralline algae and other micro fauna found in live rock and within a sand bed.
By using Red Sea’s Complete Marine Care Test Kit, you can monitor all essential water parameters during maturation.
Red Sea’s Reef Mature Starter Kit includes:
Nitro Bac – A concentrated blend of nitrifying and de-nitrifying bacteria spores to seed the live rocks, substrate and the bio-media in a new tank.
Bacto-Start – A balanced blend of nitrogen and phosphorus components that simulate the natural waste products of an active aquarium, enabling a controlled development of the aerobic and anoxic bacteria.
NO3: PO4-X – A unique complex of carbons and other organic bonded elements that are used by anoxic bacteria for the accurate control of algae nutrient (nitrate and phosphate) levels. Prevents nuisance algae and enables control of zooxanthellae for optimum coral growth and coloration Read more about NO3:PO4-X >>
KH Coralline Gro – A concentrated marine buffer complex of carbonate buffers & potassium, fortified with the specific minor and trace elements, such as iron, that promote the growth of coralline algae and other beneficial micro-fauna. Read more about KH Coralline Gro >>

Reef Complete® is a concentrated (160,000 mg/L) optimized blend of ionic calcium designed to restore and maintain calcium to levels found in natural seawater without affecting pH. Calcium and carbonates are essential to all coral growth. If either becomes deficient, coral growth will cease, followed by a rapid decline in coral health. To prevent this you must provide calcium (Reef Complete®) and carbonates (Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate).
Reef Complete® also includes magnesium and strontium in amounts proportionate to typical utilization ratios (100:5:0.1, Ca:Mg:Sr). This allows one to maintain these two important elements while maintaining calcium.
Reef Complete® is a blended product. It is not simply calcium chloride. Commercially available calcium chloride contains ammonia. Unlike other ionic calcium supplements, Reef Complete® is blended to a higher pH in order to force the ammonia to gas off into the atmosphere. In addition, Reef Complete® is more concentrated than any other liquid product on the market. Reef Complete® contains 160,000 ppm calcium. Our nearest competitor's product is only 110,000 ppm calcium.

Red Sea Coral Colors C is a complex of 8 “light” metals that includes Iron, Manganese, Cobalt, Copper, Aluminum, Zinc, Chrome and Nickel. These micro-elements are essential to many bio-chemical metabolic processes, including respiration, production of energy, chlorophyll and photosynthetic catalysts. C elements are related to the green/yellowchroma-proteins.Weekly dosing - Soft CoralsTest the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels.Daily dosing - SPS coralsEnsure that all of the Color Elements are at optimal values and run the aquarium for4 days at a stable salinity (compensate for evaporation daily) without adding anysupplements. At the end of the 4 days test the Color Elements and calculate the “4 day dosage” of each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels. Add the “4 day dosage” to the system. Divide this “4 day dosage” by 4 and use as the daily dosage for the next week. After a week of adding the daily dosage, test the Color Elements and calculate the adjusting dosage of each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels.
If the adjusting dosage is significantly different from the previous daily dosage amend (increase/decrease) the daily dosage as appropriate.
If the measured level of a specific element is above the optimal level wait for the excess of the element to be depleted before restarting the daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
Continue testing all of the elements every week and make adjustments to the dailydosages as required. As your corals grow or you add or remove livestock the uptake of the elements in your aquarium will gradually change. It is recommended to keep a log book of the weekly measurements and dosages. If you miss one or more days of supplementing add the complete amount that you have missed but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements.

MatrixCarbon is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites. MatrixCarbon has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. MatrixCarbon outperforms other high grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorption, and duration of use.
While carbon is generally considered to be a chemical filter, that is not precisely true. It is in fact a mechanical filter as well, but it is only capable of mechanically filtering objects of molecular size. It functions through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Microporous carbons remove primarily metals and smaller ions (like trace minerals) and are best suited to air filtration, while macroporous carbons remove primarily larger organic molecules (like nitrogenous waste) and are best suited to water filtration.
The ingredients from which a carbon is manufactured determine whether it will be macro- or microporous. Carbons made from coconut shell and other organic products form microporous carbons, while carbons made from bituminous coal form macroporous carbons. MatrixCarbon is a bituminous coal-based, macroporous carbon. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing for maximum water flow. It is sized to allow full penetration by water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However, that phosphate DOES NOT come from washing the carbon with phosphoric acid. Most carbons are washed with sulfuric acid. The phosphate is contained in the ash from the carbon source. The main purpose of acid-washing is to remove ash. Because of MatrixCarbon's hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from our carbon than any other. Therefore, it has the lowest leachable phosphate on the market.

Gray Coast Calcite is an all natural calcite substrate for all types of marine, reef and tropical aquaria. Its chemical composition will assist in stabilizing calcium and alkalinity while preventing large pH declines. Simply rinse before use to remove any residual dust. Unlike competing “wetâ€gravels, Gray Coast is sold dry: this bag contains 35% more gravel than a bag of wet gravel of equal weight. These “wet†gravels are marketed to give one the impression that they contain living, microscopic animals when in fact they only contain common bacteria. Dry or wet, there are bacteria on every substrate. If one is concerned with shortening the aquarium cycle time for a new system, then the use of a product designed for that particular purpose would be more appropriate (such as Seachem’s Stability®).

Focus is an antibacterial polymer for internal infections of fish. Focus is primarily intended to be mixed with food and/or other medications to make them palatable to fish and greatly reduce the loss of medication to the water through diffusion. For use in freshwater or marine aquaria.
When to Use a Medicated Food Mix...
Your fish has an internal infection Bloating, abnormal stools, loss of appetite, and weight loss are all signs of a potential internal infection. You are already treating with a medication in the water Sometimes fish will develop several infections at the same time, requiring multiple medications. We don't recommend dosing two medications into the water, but it is possible to put one medication in the food and the other in the water. There are corals, plants, or invertebrates in the tank Using a medicated food mix will prevent damage to delicate plants or invertebrates from medication.Active ingredients: Active ingredient: polymer bound nitrofurantoin (0.1%)

Cupramine effectively eradicates Oodinium, Cryptocaryon, Amyloodinium, Ichthyophthirius, and other ectoparasites of both freshwater and marine fish. It is superior to copper sulfate, chloride & citrate: it is non-acidic, less toxic to fish, remains in solution, and does not contaminate the filter bed. It is superior to chelates: it is fully charged (ionic), active at low concentrations, and is removable with carbon.
There is more than a four-fold concentration gap between the minimal therapeutic dose (0.2 mg/L) and the toxic dose (0.8 mg/L). Cupramine is easily removable with chemical filtration. It is highly effective and safe in freshwater as well as marine water.

TRACE COLORS A
Iodine, Bromine and Fluorine supplement that promotes the Pink colors in corals
IODINE+ Supplement is part of the complete range of complementary major, minor and trace element complexes which together provide the needs of corals.
IODINE+ Supplement contains iodine and other halogens that are associated with many biological processes, one of them being the production of the pink pigments in the soft tissue of corals.
The halogens act both as antioxidants and oxidative agents within the soft tissue and mucus layer of corals, reducing the possibility of coral bleaching.
In active reef systems, these elements are depleted quickly due to their high oxidative abilities and reactivity with organic materials. Iodine and bromine are related to the pink chromo-protein (pocciloporin).
For best results in displaying coral colors use Red Sea’s NO3: PO4– X.
1ml will raise the iodine level of 100 liters (25 gal) by 0.03ppm

aquavitro® seed™ will rapidly and safely establish the aquarium biofilter in freshwater and marine systems, thereby preventing the #1 cause of fish death: "new tank syndrome". seed™ is formulated specifically for the aquarium and contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria which facilitate the breakdown of waste organics, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites.
The bacteria used in competing products are inherently unstable. The conditions necessary for their growth and development fall into a very narrow range of temperatures, pH, organic loads, etc. When any of these parameters are not strictly within the proper range, the bacterial culture quickly crashes and dies. seed™ does not contain any of these short-lived bacteria. The species of bacteria in seed™ are a unique blend, specifically developed for hardiness and their ability to adapt to a wide variety of environmental conditions. The strains thrive in both fresh and saltwater.
seed™ contains both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, a blend found in no other product. Additionally, seed™ contains facultative bacterial strains which are able to adapt to either aerobic or anaerobic conditions.
