Rotala sp. “H’Ra” or “Gia Lai” is a new plant from Vietnam. It is probably a local variant of the species Rotala rotundifolia. The plant has been named after its location H’Ra in the province of Gia Lai in central Vietnam. Rotala sp. “H’Ra” or “Gia Lai” has narrow leaves and develops a nice light orange to red colour under good lighting. It has the same elegant growth habit as the light green Rotala sp. “Green”: overhanging to horizontal ramified stems. When combined with Rotala sp. “Green”, Rotala sp. “H’Ra” will be especially effective. Rotala sp. “H’Ra” or “Gia Lai” differs from the similar Rotala sp. “Colorata” by lighter-coloured narrower leaves and more overhanging stems when cultivated under the same conditions. Notes: Rotala has fragile leaves! Be sure to handle with care. Final coloration is ultimately dependent upon the conditions this plant is kept in. This is a live plant meaning size, shape and color may vary. Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant. Please be sure to remove this plant from its wrap. Remove the foam surrounding the roots and plant into a quality substrate. CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth. Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives. Just like fish, live plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape

Ranunculus inundates -The river buttercup from Australia, Ranunculus inundatus, is also sold with the label “Ranunculus papulentus”. It is a true eye-catcher with its unique palmate fresh green leaves and its creeping growth habit. To live up to its full potential, this Ranunculus needs lots of light to prevent it from forming too long leaf stalks. Ranunculus inundatus can also be cultivated as bog plant in shallow water or wet soil. Under good conditions it will form its small yellow flowers then. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape. We want your plant to thrive and become a favorite part of your tank. Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Heteranthera zosterifolia "star grass"

18 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Heteranthera zosterifolia “star grass” from South America is an especially beautiful aquarium plant. It ramifies well, which results in dense bushy plant groups after only a short time. Under strong lights Heteranthera zosterifolia “star grass”  grows fast and needs frequent trimming to ensure that the lower leaves are still reached by the light. It often throws water roots on the stems. On shoots floating on the water surface, small blue flowers will grow above the waterline. In the hobby, H. zosterifolia has been established for many years as a decorative plant for Dutch style aquaria as well as nature aquaria. Here it is used as contrasting plant in the fore-, the middle- and the background by simply cutting it to the desired height. Known as star grass by vernacular name, this plant is a great water quality indicator. A lack of nitrogen (in the form of NO3) lets the leaves become transparent before they wilt. A lack of phosphorous (in the form of PO4) changes the plant’s bright green into a darker hue. H. zosterifolia is a relatively undemanding plant and grows well at medium light intensities without additional CO2 fertlisation. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape.

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Ludwigia sp. ‘Rubin’

18 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Ludwigia sp. ‘Rubin’ – As one of the reddest of the red plants, Ludwigia sp. ‘Rubin’ is quite an eye catcher. Even a few stems make a big impact as either a neatly maintained mid ground stand or as a group of stems protruding from behind a differently colored plant in the background. It makes a great contrast to either light or dark green plants. The Ludwigia sp. ‘Rubin’ variety is very easy to grow and has no particular demands. It   grows quickly and equally well in a wide variety of conditions. Unfortunately, maintaining its deep red coloration is somewhat more of a challenge. Strong lighting with a good supply of iron go a long way towards that goal. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape.

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Ludwigia arcuata

18 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Ludwigia arcuata is one of the most delicatelooking Ludwigia species. It is widely spread in aquaristics and originates in the southeast of the USA, where it grows creeping or submersed along rivers and on the edges of ponds. It is also found in boggy areas.L arcuata is as easy as propagating any stem plant, and as this species tends to have lots of lateral shoots they just have to be cut off and re-planted. You can also take cuttings of the top shoot. Due to its delicate structure, Ludwigia arcuata ought to be planted in groups of at least 6 stems. It needs more light to develop a red stem and red leaves, and it does best in slightly acidic soft to medium-hard water. Most decorative when planted in groups. Due to its small size Ludwigia arcuata is suitable for smaller tanks. In its emerged form it can be used as creeping terrarium plant, and if it has sufficient light it will sprout relatively large yellow flowers. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape.

  • Epic Aquatics Ammannia gracilis

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Ammannia gracilis

18 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

For many years, Ammannia gracilis is known in the aquarium hobby as one of the most colourful stem plants. It is native to West Africa (Senegambia) where it occurs as swamp plant in full sun, at sandy riverbanks and in floodplains. The plant is able to grow above and under water. In its terrestrial form its leaves are inconspicuously green. However under water it develops its up to 12 cm long submerged leaves. The upper side of the leaves is brown-red, the lower side deeply violet. Ammannia gracilis looks very similar to A. crassicaulis that is rather yellowish green to reddish. The Red Ammannia is one of the more demanding aquarium plants. It should get much light; complete macro- and micronutrient supply, also via the bottom, is important. Rather soft water is beneficial, but with CO2 addition the plant also thrives in medium hard water. It prefers higher temperatures above 24 °C and still tolerates 32 °C. Several stems of different length should be planted into the ground with some space to each other. As well as other stem plants, this Ammannia is propagated by cuttings of the stem tip and side shoots. With its broad shoots and splendid brown-red coloration, the Red Ammannia looks best as a group in the midground of larger aquariums. It is well suited for creating “plant streets” in Dutch style tanks. Ammannia gracilis may also be interesting for open tanks because it readily grows out of the water. Strong lighting provided, one may expect its little light purple flowers. Ammannia Gracilis is a moderately demanding plant which will not show its full potential unless its requirements are met. Lighting should be moderate. Ammannia Gracilis prefers mildly acidic, moderately soft water although it is quite adaptable to more extreme water conditions. If there is not enough iron in the water column, the foliage of this plant will become pale. This large, colorful stem plant, when under good growing conditions, grows rapidly upwards toward the water’s surface. Pruning should be done by topping and replanting the more robust top portions. Propagation should be done by removing side shoots from the main stem plant with a pair of scissors.

Ludwigia senegalensis is relatively new to aquaristics. Its interesting leaf pattern, together with its brick red colour, discerns it from other stem plants. It first became known as Ludwigia sp. “Guinea” in the hobby. Apparently it was imported from Guinea, however, this is not verified information. L. senegalensis is rather widely distributed in Africa – from Senegal to Angola to the Sambesi river in northern Sambia – and it is found emerged and submerged in various wet places up to a height of 1100 m above sea level. Ludwigia senegalensis is relatively new in the hobby. Its interesting leaf pattern, together with its brick-red colour, distinguishes it from other stem plants. It first was introduced as Ludwigia sp. “Guinea”. This name hints at its being imported from Guinea first, however, information is scarce. L. senegalensis is rather widely spread in Africa – from Senegal to Angola and to the Zambezi river in northern Zambia – where it grows in different wet locations, emersed and submersed, up to a height of 1100 m above sea level. When cultivated emersed, the plant develops a creeping growth habit, whereas its submersed shoots grow upright. As breathtaking as this plant may be, it needs some things for optimal growth. First and foremost, it needs a lot of light and should thus not be placed in the shade or in poorly lit areas of the aquarium. A good supply of micronutrients is a must, too, as its shoot tips tend to blacken and may even die off if there is a deficiency. Fertilise with around double the dosage as given by the manufacturer. Macronutrient levels should also be ample, as L. senegalensis grows to its full potential with nitrate at around 20 mg/l and phosphate at around 2-3 mg/l. If you plant in groups, don’t plant too densely, or else the plants will generally stay smaller and lose their lower leaves.Under very much light and in a good current, the stems can be grouped closer together. Soft water seems to have a positive effect on its growth.

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Echinodorus tenellus “Sharp Leaf”

    Out of stock

Echinodorus tenellus “Sharp Leaf” – is a carpeting grass that is, in many ways, similar to Eleocharis parvula (otherwise known as ‘hairgrass’), but has slightly larger, coarser leaves which have an almost feather like appearance. As a result of that difference, it has a coarser, thicker appearance in the aquarium which creates a more rugged, wild atmosphere that can be very appealing and a little bit different. In addition to using it as a carpeting plant in medium to large aquariums, it can be used to great effect in nano aquariums too. In nano tanks it works well as a background plant where the foreground is covered largely by carpeting plants like Eleocharis parvula or Micranthemum ‘monte carlo’. Echinodorus tenellus “Sharp Leaf” grows by sending out runners, making it a perfect carpeting plant which can form a very dense carpet. It is a fast growing plant that can achieve great results in a relatively short period of time. Eleocharis tenellus will form a much better carpet if CO2 is used in the aquarium and adequate lighting is also important. If algae develops on the plant, simply prune it by cutting off the affected leaves and removing them from the aquarium.

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Hygrophila difformis

20 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Hygrophila difformis from Asia is beautiful and undemanding. Stems becomes 20-30 cm tall and 6-12 cm wide. A plant for beginners which can help create a balance in the aquarium from the start. Hygrophila difformis its  rapid growth helps prevent algae because the plant absorbs a great number of nutrients from the water. The shortage of micronutrients leads to pale leaves, which may be an indication that the aquarium needs fertilizer . In large aquariums its lobed leaves can create a distinctive group. Plant TemperatureH. Difformis thrives best in the temperature range of 18-30°C. The water’s temperature plays a vital role in determining the shape and structure of the leaves. When the temperature is high, they will grow larger with more space between each leaf than they would do in colder temperatures. LightKeep in mind that aquarium plants should get enough artificial lights. Wisteria is no exception, and as a rule of thumb, it should get around ten to twelve hours per day to flourish in the aquarium. Intense light conditions have the effect of encouraging cyanobacteria and algae growth in aquariums, but this will not cause any problem because of Water Wisteria’s high nutrient requirements. The plant’s high nutrient absorption can deprive bacteria and algae of their nutritional needs for growth, therefore will lead to the death of these organisms before they can cause any harm. Substrates for the plantYou can add quality substrate to aid the roots of the plant to hold tightly in the aquarium. A quality substrate would be one that has the complete essential nutrients required for plants to grow and thrive. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape

Hygrophila pinnatifida originates from India and is a relative newcomer to the planted aquarium market, making it a rather exciting and unusual. It obtains brown, patched leaves on the surface with a distinctive burgundy colour underneath. It creates horizontal side shoots and the top shoots should be pinched out in order to maintain compact and attractive growth. The horizontal side shoots easily attach to both wood and rocks. Hygrophila pinnatifida Growth is moderate, stems 15-40 cm tall and 10-20 cm wide, and the colour is attractive when planted in small groups with a plain background. Intense lighting ensures compact growth due to the plant’s slow to medium growth rate. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. • Epic Aquatics Glossostigma elatinoides "Glosso"

Epic Aquatics Epic Aquatics Glossostigma elatinoides "Glosso"

20 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Glossostigma elatinoides “Glosso” from New Zealand is one of the smallest aquarium plants (2-3 cm tall), and thus a good foreground plant. A difficult plant demanding a lot of light. Grows upwards if light is poor. Make sure larger plants do not overshadow it. When planting Glossostigma elatinoides “Glosso” in the aquarium small clumps should be placed at intervals of a few centimeters to help the plants grow together more quickly. CO2 addition and soft water promote growth significantly. This plant should be used as a foreground plant, and only placed where there is plenty of light. When the light is not strong enough, or the plant is shaded by other plants and decor, glosso will grow vertically, becoming spindly and unattractive. For this reason, take care when placing glosso to ensure it is not shaded from the light source. Another important factor in placing glosso is its need for a nutrient-rich substrate; iron is particularly important for this plant to thrive. Some successful growers and breeders have recommended Flora-base as a good substrate medium. ADA Aqua Soil and Power Sand are also recommended substrates. ADA Iron Bottom is an excellent iron supplement for any substrate you might choose, and the substrate should not be too coarse. When initially purchased, glosso is potted. Remove it from the potting material, then separate it out into individual plants by snipping them apart so that each is a single set of leaves with one root. Individual plants should be spaced about 1 cm apart in areas where they will receive full light. Using tweezers, place each tiny shoot deeply in the substrate taking care that no part of the root is exposed. The leaves should be just barely visible and lay right on the substrate. Some bury the entire plant, then gently wipe away enough of the substrate to just expose the leaves. It is said that it’s impossible to plant glosso too deep. CareLight is the key to success with glosso, as well as a nutrient-rich substrate and the use of carbon dioxide (CO2). Without additional CO2, algae can become a competing problem, and growth will be much slower. The CO2 should be at a level of 20–30 mg/L at a minimum. The water should be soft with a slightly acidic pH. Lighting should be at least 3 to 4 watts per gallon to ensure proper horizontal growth. If plants begin growing vertically it is an indication of too little light. Leaves turning darker generally are an indication of too little iron. Yellow leaves are also a sign of too little nutrition. Thin, slender leaves will occur when too much CO2 is present. Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape.
