MatrixCarbon is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites. MatrixCarbon has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. While carbon is generally considered to be a chemical filter, that is not precisely true. It is in fact a mechanical filter as well, but it is only capable of mechanically filtering objects of molecular size. It functions through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Microporous carbons remove primarily metals and smaller ions (like trace minerals) and are best suited to air filtration, while macroporous carbons remove primarily larger organic molecules (like nitrogenous waste) and are best suited to water filtration.
The ingredients from which a carbon is manufactured determine whether it will be macro- or microporous. Carbons made from coconut shell and other organic products form microporous carbons, while carbons made from bituminous coal form macroporous carbons. MatrixCarbon is a bituminous coal-based, macroporous carbon. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing for maximum water flow. It is sized to allow full penetration by water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However, that phosphate DOES NOT come from washing the carbon with phosphoric acid. Most carbons are washed with sulfuric acid. The phosphate is contained in the ash from the carbon source. The main purpose of acid-washing is to remove ash. Because of MatrixCarbon's hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from our carbon than any other. Therefore, it has the lowest leachable phosphate on the market.

Cholla wood is a product from the Cylindropuntia bigelovii Cactus found mainly Mexico and USA. When the cacti die and dry out, the wood remains.However, these cholla is gathered ‘locally’. Because Cholla is hollow it make a great hiding place for baby shrimp and adult shrimp especially while moulting and vulnerable.
Cholla will break down over a very long period of time and a bio-film will form on which the shrimp will forage.
Tannins will be released into the water which may stain the tank water slightly, but the tannins contain anti-bacterial and antifungal properties which help protect the shrimp.Due to its appealing look it is a great natural alternative for ceramic decoration.
DO NOT BOIL THE CHOLLA.

Feeding:Perfectly Sized Pellet: For smaller bettas (under 1.5 in length from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail, before the fins) we suggest using Micro Pellets and feeding 6 pellets twice a day. For bettas 1.5" to 1.75" betta, feed three pellets of Betta Bio-Gold up to three times daily. Add 1 pellet per 1/4 inch of growth, never feeding more than 5 pellets at one feeding. Additional feedings can be made if they are at least three hours apart and at least that amount of time before all lights are out in the room. During feedings, feed one pellet at a time and make sure the betta completely consumes each pellet. Do not overfeed. Overfeeding can be detrimental to the betta and the water quality. Remove any uneaten food after the feeding period.
