  • UNS Controsoil Black UNS Controsoil Black

    UNS UNS Controsoil Black

Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

A quality planted aquarium substrate provides the foundation for healthy plant growth. Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil is a natural blend of soil and volcanic ash. Setting it apart from other substrates, Controsoil does not contain high nutrient levels that can cause spikes in ammonia levels. It primarily focuses on impurity absorption and providing balance from the start. This approach makes UNS Controsoil a great choice for all skill levels and allows anyone to create a beautiful aquarium. Controsoil is available in various granule sizes and colors to accommodate user preference and aquatic plant choice. No Rinsing Required Inhibits cloudy water by actively absorbing impurities Low Ammonia Release Promotes and accelerates beneficial bacteria growth PH & KH buffering Buffers water to slightly acidic pH and lowers total water hardness for better aquatic plant nutrient consumption environment Optimal For Fish And Shrimp Suitable for all fresh water inhabitants such as tropical fish and shrimp that prefer slightly acidic aquarium water Designed For Planted Aquariums Granule composition and sizes provide optimal oxygen exchange for aquatic plants Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil along with a competing freshwater planted aquarium soil were scientifically tested in a controlled environment. The test was performed by a published, independent third party and consisted of an experiment using both soils side by side for a 2 week duration. RODI water was used and water changes were not performed for the entire duration to ensure continuity and to prevent data inaccuracy that would adversely affect final results. The below findings indicate that Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil is an ideal choice for all freshwater planted aquariums. TDS Measures the levels of combined organic and inorganic substances found in aquarium water other than pure H2O molecules. These solids consist primarily of minerals, salts and organic matter. This measurement can be used to determine the water source’s general quality and purity. Weekly water changes are encouraged to decrease TDS.   AMMONIA (NH3) AND NITRATE (NO3) Ammonia provides a jumpstart in a newly set up aquarium quickly without the use of third party chemicals and/or additional product(s). As ammonia decreases, nitrate levels increase. Once this step begins, livestock additions may be considered. This process is often referred to as “cycling a tank”. UNS Controsoil begins this process by immediately releasing minimal amounts of ammonia into the water column. Based on controlled tests performed, an aquarium may be cycled in less than 2 weeks time when using Controsoil. During the 2 week test period, ammonia levels spiked following the 6th day. This was due to the absence of water changes. Weekly water changes are always highly recommended to prevent ammonia spikes. A spike can be potentially lethal to all aquarium livestock. PH A measure of acidity and alkalinity. Controsoil successfully stabilizes pH levels to 6.8pH over time. This pH level is ideal for all tropical livestock, freshwater shrimp and aquatic plants. It is important to note that stable pH environments positively affect the longevity of a planted aquarium and its livestock.

  • Seachem Catappa Leaves Med

    Seachem Seachem Catappa Leaves Med

5 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Catappa leaves coming from Indian Almond Trees (Terminalia catappa) help to replicate natural environments for Bettas, shrimp and other aquarium inhabitants. When added to an aquarium, they release tannins and other organic compounds which aid in maintaining lower pH and gently tinting water. These conditions mimic habitats with acidic water and abundant leaf litter. As catappa leaves decay, beneficial micro-organisms grow on the leaf surface, creating a natural source of food for shrimp, snails, and newly-hatched fish. Add 1-2 leaves per 20 liters (5 US gallons). Remove and replace every month or as desired. Catappa leaves may float initially but will sink after 2 - 3 days. To make an extract, boil three grams (approx. two-and-a-half leaves) in 1 liter (1 US quart) of water for ten minutes or until desired color is attained. Let extract cool to aquarium temperature and pour directly into the tank or mix with prepared water for water changes. When first using extract, add gradually over a 2 to 3 days and monitor to ensure pH stays within suitable range for tank inhabitants. Chemical filtration media such as activated carbon can remove compounds provided by Catappa leaves.

Dennerle Dennerle Carbo Bio Style 120

    Out of stock

The Dennerle Bio CO2 fertiliser system Carbo Bio Style 120 supplies all freshwater aquariums up to 120 litres with vital CO2. The system is ready for operation in just a few steps. CO2 production starts after just 24 to 48 hours. A Bio CO2 diffuser specially designed for low operating pressure ensures fast, effective dissolution of the valuable CO2 in the aquarium water. Thanks to its modern, timeless design, the fertiliser unit also cuts a fine figure standing directly next to the aquarium. A pressure relief valve, pressure-resistant CO2 hose and solid hose fittings ensure a high level of operating safety. The Carbo Bio Style 120 CO2 fertiliser system is designed to be particularly sustainable: The stainless steel reaction tank is refillable and can be used for many years, the CO2 Constant gel consists of 100 % renewable raw materials.Dennerle BIO CO2 exploits the well-known fact that yeast cells are able to produce CO2 from sugar in the absence of oxygen. A problematic aspect is the fact that a fermentation process with pure sugar normally begins at a very fast pace, only to drop away substantially after just a few days. As a result, the aquarium receives too much CO2 at the beginning, and too little shortly after. In contrast, Dennerle BIO CO2 with CO2 control gel produces a virtually constant level of CO2 continuously for over 30 days, that is, for more than a month! Each CO2 bottle produces well over 300,000 CO2 bubbles. This assures your aquarium of an ideal supply of CO2 every day. The CO2 production and supply are carried out fully automatically and in the right quantities. Nothing needs to be set or measured. The ultimate in simplicity and convenience. This makes Dennerle BIO CO2 ideal for all those who are as yet unaquainted with CO2 fertilization and for those who may wish to try the method out. After only a few weeks of CO2 fertilization, the results become evident: Plant growth improves substantially, the plants are greener, stronger and display greater vitality. The whole aquarium is brought to life. Dennerle CO2 Set Carbo Bio Style 120 complete set for even CO2 fertilisation with CO2 Constant Gel made from 100 % renewable raw materials for healthy, strong plants and bright colours for at least 40 days of constant CO2 production carbon is the most important nutrient for aquarium plants for aquariums up to approx. 120 litres content CO2 Carbo Bio Depot 120 Carbo Bio Activator Carbo Bio Diffusor -CO2 dissolving unit transparent CO2 hose 1.5 m

It is ready for operation in just a few steps. CO2 production already starts after 24 to 48 hours. A pressure-resistant CO2 hose and a CO2 Micro Flipper specially designed for low operating pressure ensure fast, effective dissolution of the valuable CO2 in the aquarium water. Carbon: the basis of life for all plants Plants consist of almost 50 % carbon. CO2 is therefore their most important nutrient. It serves as the basic building block for photosynthesis. From CO2, water and light, they produce their most important building material and energy source: sugar. As a „waste material“, oxygen is produced, which all animals need to breathe.Without the addition of CO2, the level in aquaria is always too low. Plants therefore grow only slowly or not at all. This in turn means little oxygen production for fish and shrimp, but above all the risk of algae problems increases significantly. Well growing aquatic plants are the best prevention against algae!Only a regular addition of CO2 creates the natural basis for healthy, strong plant growth, lush green leaves and bright colours. The plants produce more oxygen for the fish, ensure better water quality and actively prevent algae. CO2 Production The valuable carbon is produced by a 100 % natural bio-reaction. Selected microorganisms, in combination with the CO2 Constant gel developed by Dennerle, supply an almost constant amount of CO2 (per filling) for at least 40 days. In conventional Bio CO2 systems, on the other hand, which work with white household sugar, CO2 production tends to be very irregular. It usually starts very quickly, but drops sharply again after just a few days, i.e. initially too much CO2 is produced, and later on too little. These systems are therefore less suitable for aquaristic practice.

With its uncommon shield-like leaves it is a true eye-catcher when used as ground-covering plant or group planting in the fore- or middle ground. For ideal growth, good lighting and not overly hard water are recommendable. It can be kept emerged, too. This moss is delivered as a novelty from ADA company. Callicostella prabaktiana is widespread in Southeast Asia where it occurs in moist to wet habitats, i.a. on stream edges. It is able to grow above and under water. In aquariums this medium to dark green moss has a creeping growth habit and attaches itself on wood or rock. Callicostella prabaktiana grows slowly under aquarium conditions but is not very demanding. However we recommend at least medium lighting and a good CO2 and nutrient supply. It is best tied to driftwood or stones. This rare moss is interesting for the greening of the hardscape, also in small aquariums.

This Lagenandra looks a lot like a medium-sized wide-leaved Cryptocoryne. Under good light, it has a nice orange-brown to pink leaf color. It grows to 10 to 30 cm in height and has a spreading growth habit. Other than most crypts, it does not form underground runners but has a thick rhizome. It can be grown permanently submerged in aquariums. There are several forms of Meebold's Lagenandra with different leaf shapes and colorations. Lagenandra meeboldii 'Green' is a form with light to medium green leaves. As an aquarium plant, this Lagenandra prefers a nutrient-rich substrate and not too low light. It forms a thick, creeping rhizome that with time develops side shoots. The plant can be propagated by cutting off the daughter plants. Lagenandra meeboldii 'Green' is well suited as a green, quite broad-leaved accent plant in the midground

This species is not to be confused with an aquarium plant that is erroneously called “Lagenandra keralensis” and turned out as a narrow-leaved Lagenandra meeboldii form (see Lagenandra meeboldii “Kerala”). The true Lagenandra keralensis resembles broad-leaved forms of L. meeboldii but differs mainly in inflorescence features. The ovate leaves, sitting on a creeping rhizome, show brown tones. They have a finely ruffled margin and are covered with short hairs. According to the original species description, the leaf blades are 2,7-7 cm and the leaf stalks 2-7 cm long. Until now, virtually no information about the aquarium culture of Lagenandra keralensis is available. This species occurs naturally on shady stream banks, as well as several other Lagenandra species. Its requirements are probably comparable with those of Lagenandra meeboldii. We recommend medium lighting, good water current, CO2 injection and well-balanced macro- and micronutrient supply, also via the substrate. Its emersed culture should work with a moist to wet substrate and high air humidity.
