Nitrogen is an essential element required in metabolic processes, protein synthesis, and growth of corals and macroalgae. Research suggests a tightly closed nitrogen cycle on reefs where concentrations are higher in micro-zones near the corals (Radecker 2015, Wiedenmann, 2023) than in the surrounding water.
It is important to maintain nitrogen levels along with phosphorus levels in order to allow for optimal growth and coloration of corals and macroalgae.
Supplementing with inorganic nitrogen provides a targeted means of increasing nitrogen without also adding phosphate or dissolved organics. A typical nitrate test will show all forms of nitrogen being added by Reef Nitrogen. Reef Nitrogen is easily dosed manually as well. Ideal nitrogen levels will vary but generally range from 1 – 2 mg/L (4.4 – 8.9 mg/L nitrate). Use Seachem’s Reef Phosphorus to achieve a balance of nitrogen to phosphorus levels for optimal results.

Iodide is an important element required by invertebrates and many soft corals (gorgonians, sarcophytons, etc). Reef Iodide is a concentrated (8,000 mg/L) stabilized potassium iodide source for reef aquaria that will restore and maintain iodide levels to those found in natural sea water. It is formulated to provide a safe source of iodide that will not convert to toxic free iodine under storage or reef conditions. Iodine is as toxic as chlorine and should never be used in a reef system. However, iodide is as safe as chloride.
Most iodine supplements on the market are simply potassium iodide or a medicinal disinfectant commonly known as Lugol’s Solution. Lugol’s is a highly concentrated iodine/iodide solution that is highly toxic and intended for disinfection. Although such products are sold for use in reef aquaria, we believe the risks vastly outweigh the potential minor benefits.
Reef Iodide is formulated to provide a safe source of iodide that will not convert to toxic free iodine under storage or reef conditionsPotassium iodide only products are a safer alternative but not very effective alone owing to the unstable nature of iodide in the aquarium environment. When added to an aquarium environment, iodide becomes unstable converting to elemental iodine (which is biocidal), iodate (which is useless to corals, toxic at elevated levels, and can't be tested for), and iodide which is the only form of iodine available to corals for uptake. These products' inherent instability makes them potentially dangerous to coral health. Unlike competing products, Reef Iodide is complexed to a stabilizing compound in order to keep it in the iodide form when added to the aquarium. All of the product remains usable and fully bio-available.

Reef Carbonate is a concentrated (4,000 meq/L) optimized blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts designed to restore and maintain alkalinity in the reef aquarium. Calcium and carbonates are essential to all coral growth. If either becomes deficient, coral growth will cease, followed by a rapid decline in coral health. To prevent this you must provide carbonates (Reef Carbonate) and calcium (Reef Advantage Calcium™ or Reef Complete®).
Whereas competing products simply use sodium bicarbonate, Reef Carbonate is made with a blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts. This blend of salts results in Reef Carbonate yielding a pK of roughly 9.0 in saltwater (higher than competing products). In a closed reef system, the multitude of organics produced by reef inhabitants tends to force pH downward, but the advantage of Reef Carbonate's higher pK is a stabilization of pH around 8.3-8.4. Competing products’ formulations make them incapable of such a claim, so pH will always fall below desirable levels for a reef aquarium.
Used as directed, Reef Carbonate will not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium which usually tend to precipitate with increasing alkalinity. Reef alkalinity should be maintained at 3–6 meq/L (8–17 dKH). Alkalinity should not be allowed to fall below 2 meq/L.

Reef Calcium is a concentrated (50,000 mg/L) bioavailable polygluconate complexed calcium intended to maintain calcium in the reef aquarium without altering pH. Additionally, polygluconate contains no nitrogen or phosphorous, thus it is biologically impossible for it to lead to algae growth in a properly maintained reef system.
Polygluconate complexation confers several benefits: it increases the bioavailability of the calcium, it provides a rich source of metabolic energy to help maintain peak coral growth, and it prevents calcium precipitation/alkalinity depletion.
Reef Calcium utilizes a chained organic calcium rather than an ionic calcium. When a coral absorbs a molecule into its tissue, it uses the same amount of energy regardless of molecular size. However, charged molecules require more energy. When an uncharged molecule of Reef Calcium is absorbed, the coral acquires multiple calcium atoms as well as an easily metabolized carbohydrate with less energy expended than it uses for ionic calcium uptake. Therefore, at lower calcium levels, corals can still take in as much calcium through our organic chains as they would at much higher levels of ionic calcium.
Reef Calcium may be used alone to maintain calcium but will provide enhanced levels of coral growth when used in conjunction with an ionic calcium supplement (Reef Complete®, Reef Advantage Calcium). Reef Calcium is intended to maintain calcium levels; if calcium becomes seriously depleted one should either perform a water change or use an ionic calcium supplement to restore the depleted level of calcium.

Reef Builder raises carbonate alkalinity (KH) without immediately impacting on pH. With long term use there will be a tendency to stabilize at pH 8.3. Used as directed, Reef Builder will not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium which usually tend to precipitate with increasing alkalinity. Reef Builder and Reef Buffer may be used together.
Use Reef Builder to raise carbonate alkalinity without affecting pH. Use Reef Buffer to raise carbonate alkalinity and pH. Reef alkalinity should be maintained at 3–5 meq/L (8–14 dKH). Alkalinity should not be allowed to fall below 2 meq/L.

When used as directed Reef Buffer will raise the pH of your reef system to 8.3 without fear of accidentally overshooting the pH to a dangerous level. Whereas competing products simply use sodium bicarbonate, Reef Buffer is made with a blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts. This blend of salts results in Reef Buffer yielding a pK of roughly 8.6 in saltwater.
The pK of a buffering agent is equivalent to the pH around which that buffer most strongly buffers. One would presume, then, that the pK of a saltwater buffer should be 8.3; however, the multitude of organic acids produced by the inhabitants of a reef system forces pH downward to a much greater degree than in a non-reef, marine system. A buffer with a pK of 8.3 would end up yielding a pH more in the range of 8.0-8.2. Reef Buffer's higher pK (8.6) allows for greater pH stability in a reef system where the bioload is significantly more than in a fish only system. Competing products are not designed specifically for the reef environment, so their pK is too low (in most cases, pK 8.3). At this pK, the proper pH can never be reached in saltwater.
Reef Buffer will also raise carbonate alkalinity; however, when pH is not an issue, Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate should be your first choice for a carbonate alkalinity supplement.

Strontium occurs in natural seawater at a concentration of about 8 to 10 mg/L. It is chemically very similar to calcium, and many organisms incorporate it in their skeletons along with calcium. Its addition to reef aquariums aids the growth of corals, coralline algae and other organisms that lay down a calcereous skeleton or shell, including tridacnid clams.
Reef Advantage Strontium restores and maintains strontium to levels found in natural sea water. Strontium is utilized by corals in the same manner as calcium and holds a similar importance in maintaining a vigorous level of growth. It is most useful in densely populated aquariums requiring a continuous supply of strontium. Reef Advantage Strontium is a highly concentrated (30,000 ppm), ionically balanced strontium supplement.
Unlike other strontium chloride products, Reef Advantage Strontiumâ„¢ is formulated so that it can be added directly to the aquarium. Competing products require one to mix a separate solution before adding it to the system.

Reef Advantage Magnesium is a concentrated (80,000 ppm) optimized blend of magnesium, chloride, and sulfate salts designed to restore depleted levels of magnesium with minimal impact to the ionic ratios found in natural sea water. Reef Advantage Magnesium contains no ammonia. This is a common contaminant in every liquid magnesium supplement on the market.
Severely depleted levels of magnesium (below 800 mg/L) can cause depressed pH levels and an inability to maintain proper magnesium levels. The most frequent causes of magnesium deficiency are use of kalkwasser, frequent overdosing of a carbonate additive, or low levels in the salt mix itself. Kalkwasser, for instance, precipitates magnesium as magnesium hydroxide while excess carbonates precipitate it as magnesium carbonate. In both cases, this means that magnesium that was present in the water is now unavailable. Of the two, magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate, the former is more problematic; it is extremely insoluble. Once magnesium has precipitated as magnesium hydroxide, it will never redissolve. Magnesium carbonate will redissolve; however, it does so slowly. So, while it will go back into solution, there will be a significant portion of time in which magnesium levels are depleted.

Reef Advantage Calcium is a non-caustic (pH 8.3–8.6) optimized blend of ionic calcium designed to restore and maintain calcium to levels found in natural seawater. Calcium and carbonates are essential to all coral growth. If either becomes deficient, coral growth will cease, followed by a rapid decline in coral health.
Reef Advantage Calcium also includes magnesium and strontium in amounts proportionate to typical utilization ratios (100:5:0.1, Ca:Mg:Sr). This allows one to maintain these two important elements while maintaining calcium. Unlike limewater (kalkwasser), Reef Advantage Calcium does not have a caustic pH and will not deplete magnesium. Used as directed, it will not deplete alkalinity.

Coral Color A is a complex of halogens (Iodine, Bromine and Fluorine). The halogens act both as antioxidants and oxidative agents within the soft tissue and mucus layer of corals, reducing the possibility of coral bleaching. In active reef systems, these elements are depleted quickly due to their high oxidative abilities and reactivity with organic materials. Iodine and bromine are related to the pinkchroma-protein (pocciloporin).Coral Color B is a complex of Potassium and Boron. Potassium plays an essential role in the transportation of coral nutrients within the soft tissue (including the nutrients provided by the Zooxanthellae). Potassium and Boron significantly affect the alkalinity of a coral’s soft tissue and the formation of aragonite in its skeleton. Potassium is related to the red chroma-proteins.Coral Color C is a complex of 8 “light” metals that includes Iron, Manganese, Cobalt, Copper, Aluminum, Zinc, Chrome and Nickel. These micro-elements are essential to many bio-chemical metabolic processes, including respiration, production of energy, chlorophyll and photosynthetic catalysts. C elements are related to the green/yellow chroma-proteins.Coral Color D is a complex of 18 trace elements. These 18 elements (out of all the trace elements in NSW) participate in the metabolic processes inside a coral’s skeleton and soft tissue. D elements are related to the blue/purple chroma-proteins.Weekly dosing - Soft CoralsTest the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels.Daily dosing - SPS coralsEnsure that all of the Color Elements are at optimal values and run the aquarium for4 days at a stable salinity (compensate for evaporation daily) without adding anysupplements. At the end of the 4 days test the Color Elements and calculate the “4 day dosage” of each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels. Add the “4 day dosage” to the system. Divide this “4 day dosage” by 4 and use as the daily dosage for the next week. After a week of adding the daily dosage, test the Color Elements and calculate the adjusting dosage of each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels.
If the adjusting dosage is significantly different from the previous daily dosage amend (increase/decrease) the daily dosage as appropriate.
If the measured level of a specific element is above the optimal level wait for the excess of the element to be depleted before restarting the daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
Continue testing all of the elements every week and make adjustments to the dailydosages as required. As your corals grow or you add or remove livestock the uptake of the elements in your aquarium will gradually change. It is recommended to keep a log book of the weekly measurements and dosages. If you miss one or more days of supplementing add the complete amount that you have missed but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements

Guaranteed effectiveness with several different Carbon sources
The use of a Carbon source in a marine aquarium is the result of an old technique to lower strongly and quickly the levels of nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate present in the water. This is like the technique of vodka/vinegar/sugar dosing, but without the risk of introducing unwanted elements (coloring, flavoring, etc.) and with multiple carbon sources in right proportions. The added organic carbon strongly stimulates bacteria and quickly lowers the levels of NO2, NO3 and PO4. This bacterial surplus will be consumed by the animals in the tank or eliminated via efficient skimming.
[N,P]EX is a combination in the right proportions of several different carbon sources which guarantee its effectiveness. It should only be used by aquarists who are experienced and knowledgeable in monitoring the values of their aquarium. It's recommendend to use when all other NO3 and PO4 limitation measures are no longer effective. Gradually increase the amounts according to the expected parameters levels. Once they are stable, maintain the dosage while regularly monitoring these levels.
For the exact application, please refer to the table in the download area. Nano = 1.000 L Aquarium 100 = 2.500 L Aquarium 250 = 6.250 L Aquarium 01 = 100.000 L Aquarium

Reef Phytoplankton is a concentrated blend of green and brown marine phytoplankton designed to provide the essential fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, amino acids, with biological carotenoids for invertebrate diet. Size ranges from 1-20 μm to feed a broad range of tropical marine aquarium filter feeders and invertebrates.
Reef Phytoplankton contains a natural source of carotenoids which provides essential proteins as well as a more bioavailable source of pigmentation when compared to other natural sources and synthetic pigments. Carotenoids provide the extra benefit of antioxidant activity.
In addition, Reef Phytoplankton is enhanced to increase the bioavailability of important nutrients such as proteins, lipids, B vitamins, and other organic pigments, thus, corals expend less energy to derive the nutritional benefit.
It is blended to contain the proper ratio of fatty acids, carbohydrates, and proteins. Blending phytoplankton yields better nutritional value. Studies* show increased consumption of phytoplankton in filter feeders when using mixed cultures versus a single culture of phytoplankton.

Feed your fish consistently, and safely, while you are home or away! a key component of caring for aquatic animals is regularly providing them with food, but in amounts that get consumed immediately so as not to pollute the aquarium. On top of that, most species do best when they are fed all throughout the day. however, Overfeeding of aquariums is one of the top reasons for water pollution and tank failures. With the AFS, you can use the apex to schedule to feed your fish small amounts of food from once, to as many times as you like throughout the day. You can even set the exact days to feed or not to feed. And, if you are measuring water quality using ORP, you can even hold off feeding if the ORP values drop too low in the tank
The automatic feeding system allows feeding fish safely and consistently while at home or away
A safe dry system keeps fish food from clumping or caking
The feeding system is designed for pellet or flake food
