Replacing the tube after use
Disconnect the unit from the power supply
Remove the UV from the system / manifold and drain all the water
Remove the clear end caps and gently pull the electrical connectors off the ends of the tube.
Unscrew the blue nuts and remove the o’rings
Gently remove the tube from the Unit aand wipe any debris from the ends of the Unit.
Gently insert the new tube into the unit and re-fit the o-rings or fit new o-rings if perished
Screw the blue nuts back on ensuring a snug fit onto the o-rings without over tightening.
Fit the tube connectors to the ends of th tube and cover with the clear PVC caps
Re-install the UV to the system and check for leaks and tighten the blue nuts where necessary.

Regularly monitor your water temperature and adjust the amount and frequency of your feedings based on this temperature, the water condition, number and size of fish and their activity level. Avoid over-feeding and always remove any uneaten food remaining after the feeding period.
For 64-86°F (18-30°C) – Feed two to four times per day the amount your fish will completely consume within five minutes.
For 41-64°F (5-18°C) – Feed no more than twice daily the amount your fish will completely consume within five minutes. For best results try to feed during the warmer part of the day.

Trans Instruments has specially designed the Koi Medic Sal Meter to measure the delicate salt concentration in the pond. The Model we list measures in percentage (%) The testers are accurate and easy to use. All you need to do is turn it on and dip into the pond water.
The Koi Medic provides accurate results and is very easy to use, simply turn on and hold in the pond. Within a couple seconds the LCD displays the salt concentration measured in percentage. Measures accurately from 0.01% to 1%.
Salt concentrations between 0.3% and 0.5% (3 to 5 ppt) will upset the osmotic balance of some parasites i.e. the parasites’ cells will dehydrate. Salt concentration of 0.3% are effective at detoxifying nitrite and concentration of 0.25% or higher has been used to control string algae.

Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area, whereas Pond Matrix™ provides internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Pond Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter. Pond Matrix™ is completely inert and will not breakdown. It need not be replaced. It is also more suitable for use as a clean soil replacement for growing pond plants. A pond with clear water is an attractive feature in your garden, which brings many hours of enjoyment and relaxation. A green pond is unappealing to look at and is difficult to determine whether your fish are diseased or if they have damaged themselves. Algae also pose a threat to your fish as it starves them of essential oxygen they require.
How it works.
An Ultra Zap UV Sterilizer will maintain a clear pond throughout the year without the use of chemicals. The unit works by exposing the phototrophic micro-organisms (free floating single celled algae) to a dose of UV radiation. This destroys and prevents the regrowth of the phototropic micro-organisms.
Safe to use.
Ultra Zap UV units have no side effects on the inhabitants of your pond or environment. If algaecides are used, you have the risk of over-treatment and/or residual chemical build up in your pond. The inhabitants, fish and plants, of your pond are to some degree sensitive to algaecides. With the use of an Ultra Zap unit you stand no risk of this.
Choice of unit.
There are four units available, 8 Watt, 15 watt, 30 watt and 55 watt. The table below provides a guide to which UV unit your pond will require. The use of a quartz sleeve is often recommended with the use of UV units, but for the reduction of algae it is not necessary. Therefore the Ultra Zap Pond unit does not incorporate a quartz sleeve.
UV-C (315-400nm) is often referred to as germicidal wavelength, because of its ability to destroy micro-organisms. The tubes in all of our UV sterilisers emit a wide range of ultraviolet with its most significant part at a wavelength of 253.7nm, which has been found to be the most efficient for germicidal action.

Bio Balls are used for biological filtration. The main advantage of bio balls over other biological media is that the surfaces are impossible to clog up (when used with a pre-filter). The reason is simple: the gabs of space within a bio ball is large and anything that can clog it up would already have been filtered by the pre-filter (such as filter wool, sponge etc). This is the reason why water filtration should always pass through mechanical filtration (pre-filter) before biological filtration.
