Scaper's Soil is an active substrate specially developed for aquariums. It creates a slightly acidic, soft water that most animals and plants from tropical areas love. Scaper's Soil is ideal for planted aquariums, especially aquascaping, and shrimp aquaria. Scaper's Soil is made from 100% natural raw materials. Made from a variety of carefully selected natural soils, it provides all the vital minerals and trace elements that aquarium plants need on a daily basis. The irregularly shaped grains with a diameter of 1 to 4 mm make the soil look particularly natural. Its loose structure allows optimal soil aeration, plant roots can grow in well. Scaper's Soil provides the perfect basis for healthy, vigorous plant growth and magnificent colors. Mosses also benefit from it and show it through compact growth and lush green leaves. The deep black coloration creates an intense, vivid contrast to the bright green of the plants. Scaper's Soil effectively prevents annoying algae growth for 3 reasons: Through the special nutrient formula – so the nutrients primarily benefit the plants, but not the algae. Through the nutrient buffer function: like a battery, excess nutrients are absorbed from the free water and only released back to the plants when needed. Through the powerful promotion of plant growth – because well growing aquatic plants are the strongest opponents of algae. Scaper's Soil has active ion exchange properties. Info about Andosol: Scaper's Soil has a particularly growth-promoting effect due to its content of natural Andosol. The term is composed of the Japanese an do, which means "black soil", and the Latin sol for "soil". Andosols develop preferably in mountainous, rainy regions on the basis of mineral-rich volcanic ashes. The soils are characterized by a dark brown to pitch-black color. They are particularly rich in vital nutrients, minerals and trace elements. At the same time, they have a high content of valuable humic and fulvic acids. Andosol soils are therefore extremely fertile and highly valued agriculturally.

Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil along with a competing freshwater planted aquarium soil were scientifically tested in a controlled environment. The test was performed by a published, independent third party and consisted of an experiment using both soils side by side for a 2 week duration. RODI water was used and water changes were not performed for the entire duration to ensure continuity and to prevent data inaccuracy that would adversely affect final results.
The below findings indicate that Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil is an ideal choice for all freshwater planted aquariums.
TDS
Measures the levels of combined organic and inorganic substances found in aquarium water other than pure H2O molecules. These solids consist primarily of minerals, salts and organic matter. This measurement can be used to determine the water source’s general quality and purity. Weekly water changes are encouraged to decrease TDS.
AMMONIA (NH3) AND NITRATE (NO3)
Ammonia provides a jumpstart in a newly set up aquarium quickly without the use of third party chemicals and/or additional product(s). As ammonia decreases, nitrate levels increase. Once this step begins, livestock additions may be considered. This process is often referred to as “cycling a tank”. UNS Controsoil begins this process by immediately releasing minimal amounts of ammonia into the water column. Based on controlled tests performed, an aquarium may be cycled in less than 2 weeks time when using Controsoil.
During the 2 week test period, ammonia levels spiked following the 6th day. This was due to the absence of water changes. Weekly water changes are always highly recommended to prevent ammonia spikes. A spike can be potentially lethal to all aquarium livestock.
PH
A measure of acidity and alkalinity. Controsoil successfully stabilizes pH levels to 6.8pH over time. This pH level is ideal for all tropical livestock, freshwater shrimp and aquatic plants. It is important to note that stable pH environments positively affect the longevity of a planted aquarium and its livestock.

Multimineral nutrient soil for freshwater aquaria
Building on its extensive knowledge of the natural habitats of the most popular aquatic plants, Dennerle has developed a humus-rich long-term mineral nutrient soil especially for aquariums. The plant is optimally supplied with all the nutrients it needs via the strong, widely branched rootstock. This allows the care of even sensitive species that are rather difficult to keep in the aquarium. Of course, Deponit-Mix does not contain any additional phosphates and nitrates – nutrients that can promote algae in excessive concentrations – and it is covered by the aquarium gravel as the bottom layer. Many years of practical experience show: Deponit-Mix effectively prevents algae plagues. The combination of depot nutrients, trace elements and clay minerals, which regulate the nutrient balance, always gives the aquatic plant roots the right amount of nutrients. Humic-rich natural peat slightly acidifies the soil and makes plant nutrients more available. Clay minerals, humus substances and soil bacteria are already active in the slightly moistened deponite mix. The bacteria are supplied with oxygen through the two holes in the lid. Also unique are the white activator beads, which provide full microorganism power right at the start like a bacterial filling station. Depending on the plant population, lighting and other fertilization, aquariums with DeponitMix can last up to 10 years.
