    Seachem Seachem Reef Iron

9 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Iron is an essential element required in metabolic processes, protein synthesis, and growth of corals and macroalgae. Iron supplementation can enhance coral and macroalgae growth and color – particularly yellow and green colors in corals. In systems supported with nitrogen and phosphorous supplementation, iron utilization rates may be increased as iron assists in assimilation of nitrogen.   Iron supplementation can enhance coral and macroalgae growth and color – particularly yellow and green colors in corals. Supplementing with Reef Iron™ provides a safe means of increasing iron concentrations. Reef Iron™ is ideally suited for use with an aquavitro sentia dose doser to maintain iron at a consistent concentration based on your aquarium's unique demand but is easily dosed manually as well. Ideal iron levels will vary but natural seawater generally ranges from 0.003–0.01 mg/L iron. Reef aquariums are often kept at higher levels for optimal coloration and growth. For optimal macro algae growth, many find 0.05–0.1 mg/L to be beneficial. Use Reef Nitrogen™, Reef Phosphorus™ and Reef Potassium™ to maintain optimal nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium levels.

  • Seachem Catappa Leaves Med

    Seachem Seachem Catappa Leaves Med

5 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Catappa leaves coming from Indian Almond Trees (Terminalia catappa) help to replicate natural environments for Bettas, shrimp and other aquarium inhabitants. When added to an aquarium, they release tannins and other organic compounds which aid in maintaining lower pH and gently tinting water. These conditions mimic habitats with acidic water and abundant leaf litter. As catappa leaves decay, beneficial micro-organisms grow on the leaf surface, creating a natural source of food for shrimp, snails, and newly-hatched fish. Add 1-2 leaves per 20 liters (5 US gallons). Remove and replace every month or as desired. Catappa leaves may float initially but will sink after 2 - 3 days. To make an extract, boil three grams (approx. two-and-a-half leaves) in 1 liter (1 US quart) of water for ten minutes or until desired color is attained. Let extract cool to aquarium temperature and pour directly into the tank or mix with prepared water for water changes. When first using extract, add gradually over a 2 to 3 days and monitor to ensure pH stays within suitable range for tank inhabitants. Chemical filtration media such as activated carbon can remove compounds provided by Catappa leaves.

10 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Flourite Sand is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. Flourite Sand is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Flourite Sand is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Flourite Sand is good for the life of the aquarium and need not be replaced. Set-up - Although it is pre-washed, because Flourite Sand is a natural product, it may become dusty in transit and require rinsing before use to remove any residual dust. When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing Flourite Sand substrate bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the gravel bed. Initial cloudiness is normal. To remove cloudiness, use mechanical filtration (such as filter floss). Use Clarity to accelerate clearing.

    Seachem Marine Trace

10 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Replenishment of a number of trace elements is required to maintain an environment ideal for the growth and reproduction of marine life, but while the importance of trace elements has been recognized by aquarists for many years, the physiological reasons are not fully understood. The chemical elements in seawater are varied, and, likewise their addition to the aquarium in trace quantities has varied effects on a variety of saltwater plant and invertebrate species. In general, though, these elements are important for metabolic processes and pigment formation. Addition of iron, for instance, has been shown to benefit coloring and growth for corals, anemones, and other photosynthetic animals. Marine Trace supplies a broad range of trace elements demonstrated to be necessary for proper fish health and growth. Unlike terrestrial animals, fish obtain nutrients from both their food and environment. Trace elements are normally depleted by utilization, oxidation and precipitation, thus it is important to restore them on a regular basis. Marine Traceâ„¢ contains only those elements actually demonstrated to be required by fish.

  • Reef Strontium Reef Strontium

    Seachem Reef Strontium

10 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Strontium occurs in natural seawater at a concentration of about 8 to 10 mg/L. It is chemically very similar to calcium, and many organisms incorporate it in their skeletons along with calcium. Its addition to reef aquariums aids the growth of corals, coralline algae and other organisms that lay down a calcereous skeleton or shell, including tridacnid clams. Reef Strontium is intended to restore and maintain strontium to levels found in natural seawater without affecting pH. Strontium is utilized in the same manner as calcium and holds a similar importance in maintaining a vigorous level of growth. Reef Strontium contains 10,000 mg/L of available strontium as a gluconate complex. Gluconate complexation confers several benefits: it increases the bioavailability of the strontium, it provides a rich source of metabolic energy to help maintain peak coral growth, and it inhibits strontium precipitation/alkalinity depletion. Gluconate contains no nitrogen or phosphorous, thus it is biologically impossible for it to lead to algae growth in a properly maintained reef system.

  • Reef Iodide Reef Iodide

    Seachem Reef Iodide

10 in stock Delivery in 2-5 Days  Excluding Weekends and Public Holidays

Iodide is an important element required by invertebrates and many soft corals (gorgonians, sarcophytons, etc). Reef Iodide is a concentrated (8,000 mg/L) stabilized potassium iodide source for reef aquaria that will restore and maintain iodide levels to those found in natural sea water. It is formulated to provide a safe source of iodide that will not convert to toxic free iodine under storage or reef conditions. Iodine is as toxic as chlorine and should never be used in a reef system. However, iodide is as safe as chloride. Most iodine supplements on the market are simply potassium iodide or a medicinal disinfectant commonly known as Lugol’s Solution. Lugol’s is a highly concentrated iodine/iodide solution that is highly toxic and intended for disinfection. Although such products are sold for use in reef aquaria, we believe the risks vastly outweigh the potential minor benefits. Reef Iodide is formulated to provide a safe source of iodide that will not convert to toxic free iodine under storage or reef conditionsPotassium iodide only products are a safer alternative but not very effective alone owing to the unstable nature of iodide in the aquarium environment. When added to an aquarium environment, iodide becomes unstable converting to elemental iodine (which is biocidal), iodate (which is useless to corals, toxic at elevated levels, and can't be tested for), and iodide which is the only form of iodine available to corals for uptake. These products' inherent instability makes them potentially dangerous to coral health. Unlike competing products, Reef Iodide is complexed to a stabilizing compound in order to keep it in the iodide form when added to the aquarium. All of the product remains usable and fully bio-available.
