MatrixCarbon is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites. MatrixCarbon has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. MatrixCarbon outperforms other high grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorption, and duration of use.
While carbon is generally considered to be a chemical filter, that is not precisely true. It is in fact a mechanical filter as well, but it is only capable of mechanically filtering objects of molecular size. It functions through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Microporous carbons remove primarily metals and smaller ions (like trace minerals) and are best suited to air filtration, while macroporous carbons remove primarily larger organic molecules (like nitrogenous waste) and are best suited to water filtration.
The ingredients from which a carbon is manufactured determine whether it will be macro- or microporous. Carbons made from coconut shell and other organic products form microporous carbons, while carbons made from bituminous coal form macroporous carbons. MatrixCarbon is a bituminous coal-based, macroporous carbon. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing for maximum water flow. It is sized to allow full penetration by water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However, that phosphate DOES NOT come from washing the carbon with phosphoric acid. Most carbons are washed with sulfuric acid. The phosphate is contained in the ash from the carbon source. The main purpose of acid-washing is to remove ash. Because of MatrixCarbon's hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from our carbon than any other. Therefore, it has the lowest leachable phosphate on the market.

AmGuard is the strongest liquid ammonia binder on the market. It works within minutes to detoxify free ammonia, and it doesn't degrade for nearly 72 hours. That's at least twice as long as our competitors products. Unlike competing products, AmGuard converts it into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tanks biofilter. It does not alter pH.
Ammonia can exist in two forms: free and ionized. It is only the free form that is toxic. Traditional ammonia test kits convert all ammonia to free ammonia by raising pH to 12–14; at this pH AmGuard cannot function and thus a false positive reading will result. For long term ammonia control, use Seachem Stability® and Matrix. Use Ammonia Alert® or MultiTest Free & Total Ammonia to directly monitor levels of free ammonia. AmGuard also removes chlorine and chloramines.

Dosage:

A beginner aquarist usually starts with a relatively small aquarium. With time, he often decides to purchase a larger aquarium and later, as his enthusiasm and skills grow, an even larger one. However, with each new purchase, one has to update the entire set of aquarium devices, of which the filter is the most expensive one. With MULTIKANI filters, you no longer have to buy a new filter when upgrading your aquarium. The filters can be used with any aquarium. Components of the standard packageThe MULTIKANI filter consists of a cylindrical container fitted with a lid with shut-off valves. In a standard version, the container is filled with filter media. The filter is supplied with an external suction pump, which enables operation even in very shallow water, e.g. in tanks where semi-terrestrial turtles are kept. The main gaskets in MULTIKANI filters are made of special silicone to guarantee maximal tightness of the deviceMode of operationThe performance of MULTIKANI filters can be smoothly regulated thanks to a continuous control dial. The filter is driven by an independent pump with the throughput of 650 l/h. The pump can be installed either inside or outside of the water tank, so filter containers can be positioned not only under the aquarium but also next to it or even above the water level.The cleaning of MULTIKANI filters is facilitated by a shut-off valve with the by-pass function.
