Cholla wood is a product from the Cylindropuntia bigelovii Cactus found mainly Mexico and USA. When the cacti die and dry out, the wood remains. However, these cholla is gathered ‘locally’. Because Cholla is hollow it make a great hiding place for baby shrimp and adult shrimp especially while moulting and vulnerable.
Cholla will break down over a very long period of time and a bio-film will form on which the shrimp will forage.
Tannins will be released into the water which may stain the tank water slightly, but the tannins contain anti-bacterial and antifungal properties which help protect the shrimp.Due to its appealing look it is a great natural alternative for ceramic decoration.DO NOT BOIL THE CHOLLA. Eleocharis vivipara is the taller variant of the well recognized Dwarf Hairgrass. This plant is really like an aquatic grass, with thin stalks growing from roots that spread horizontally by sending our runners. Due to its tall height, this plant makes a stunning background plant when grown in large clusters. High lighting and Co2 injection is not always necessary to grow hair grass but it will definitely increase the growth speed and thickness of the foreground. Simply separate larger mats into small portions and plant each an inch or so apart half way into the substrate. After several weeks, the plant will send our runners all around and a lush foreground of grass can be created.
Eleocharis vivipara (Long-hair grass) has a special place among its related species, primarily because of its method of propagation. It does not propagate by runners like Eleocharis parvula or Eleocharis acicularis. Instead, propagation is done by formation of plantlets on the surface of the leaves, in a way similar to propagation of the ferns. New plantlets don’t produce roots for a long time, thus giving the impression that the stem of Eleocharis vivipara is divided into several leaves. This feature is of particular value for aquascaping. But later, when roots are already developed and visible, the plant will no longer look nice. Therefore, Eleocharis vivipara requires a special care.
Care for Eleocharis vivipara has its features in terms of trimming and planting. The planting is difficult because the bush of Eleocharis vivipara is often made of dense cluster of its plantlets. You can press this cluster to the substrate, but in this case many of the bushes will remain unrooted. In the future, roots of these unrooted bushes will grow above the substrate becoming more and more visible. It’s better, therefore, to separate all the young bushes and plant them in the substrate so that all roots are buried in the substrate.

Each liter of Matrix™ provides as much surface (>~700 m2) as 170 liters of plastic balls! Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area, whereas Matrix™ provides both external and internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.
Matrix™ is completely inert and will not breakdown. It need not be replaced. Since the majority of the bacteria are internal, Matrix™ may be rinsed when needed without damaging the filter. Matrix™ is compatible with all types of wet or wet-dry filters.

Clarity is the ultimate clarifier for both fresh and saltwater. It employs an advanced polymeric flocculating agent that is both reef and plant safe. Clarity is the only clarifier on the market that does it all! Clarity will clear all types of clouding.
Many companies manufacture multiple products to clear up each type of cloudiness and each different environment (e.g. freshwater, marine, reef, etc.). Some companies have developed products that will clear most types of cloudiness, but their application requires two separate bottles of product. Clarity contains compounds that will clear all types of cloudiness in all environments.
Clarity contains both precipitating and flocculating agents in the same bottle, enabling all types of cloudiness to be removed in one dose.
Upon adding Clarity to the water, you will see a cloudy haze begin to form. This is normal and means that Clarity is beginning to work. The water is filled with tiny pieces of floating matter that were not visible to the naked eye. Clarity makes those pieces of matter begin to clump together. As they clump together they form larger pieces of matter that are now visible, hence the cloudiness. Once this matter has clumped together, it is a simple matter of mechanical filtration to remove the residue. Matter that was once too small to get caught in filter media is now in large enough clumps.
In order for Clarity to work effectively, you should have a filter with mechanical filtration (e.g., filter floss) connected to your aquarium.

Rotala rotundifolia ‘Ceylon’ was originally introduced from Sri Lanka (Ceylon). R. sp. ‘Pink’ since about 2012 This pretty Rotala rotundifolia form was often used by Takashi Amano for his aquascapes. Since about 2012 it is also called Rotala sp. ‘Pink’, however this name is also used for a different Rotala rotundifolia variant.In its submerged form, ‘Ceylon’ differs from “normal” Rotala rotundifolia by a looser, lighter growth habit. The stems are thinner, darker coloured and tend to grow upward in wide spirals. The internodes are relatively long, the leaves are light green with pink lower side. Under lots of light, the shoot tips can assume light-reddish hues.
The Ceylon Rotala is as easy to care for as “standard” Rotala rotundifolia. It is recommendable as a bush in the midground to background.
Just like fish, living plants do best when they are kept in an aquarium that best suits their needs. Selecting live plants that share common water conditions will minimize problems and make it easier for you to maintain and keep your aquarium in tip top shape.
